Dr. Shira Billet
Advanced Kollel: Executive Ordination, Class of 2023
Dr. Shira Billet holds a PhD in Religion from Princeton University. Her dissertation focused on the German Jewish philosopher Hermann Cohen, a central figure in the development of modern Jewish philosophy. She also researches intersections between modern Jewish philosophy and feminist philosophy, especially with respect to the philosopher's experience of philosophizing from the margins, and the epistemological implications of thinking on the margins. Shira is currently a postdoctoral associate in the departments of Judaic Studies and Philosophy at Yale University, and a faculty fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. She has given lectures on Jewish philosophy and modern Jewish history at many synagogues and other Jewish institutions, and also speaks on the topic of pregnancy and infant loss. She lives in Riverdale with her husband, Rabbi Steven Exler, and their family, where they are honored to serve the wonderful community of the Hebrew Institute of Riverdale.
