about the development director

Yeshivat Maharat is seeking a Development Director to oversee our development strategy, including donor cultivation, foundation relationships, and donor data management. The Development Director is a resourceful self-starter who is enthusiastic about creating and implementing new fundraising strategies to support Maharat’s thoughtful and sustainable growth. With a small and dedicated staff, Maharat is seeking a professional with vision who is also able to roll up their sleeves to execute campaigns and initiatives. Reporting to the President, the Development Director will collaborate closely with the EVP, SVP of Finance and Operations, and the Board Development Committee, and receive support from a small staff who provide data management, reporting, and administrative support to the development program.

 

responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive annual and longer term fundraising plan and calendar to create a high-touch, high-level donor program to strengthen the pipeline, increase success of our annual campaigns, and increase donors’ affinity with Maharat’s mission

  • Manage and create clear, executive financial goals for each of two major annual fundraising campaigns 

  • Utilize data to track trends and identify opportunities for campaign growth; use donor database to create reports for fundraising

  • Implement systems and practices that identify new communities, foundations and contacts to build a broader, more geographically diverse base of support; build relationships with foundations and new donors

  • Maintain a portfolio of donor relationships and cultivate, solicit, and upgrade donors 

  • Supervise staff who work on development initiatives, including database entry, maintenance, and integrity; gift tracking and acknowledgements; and managing foundation, campaign, and stewarding schedules

  • Support the President and lay Development Committee with meeting planning and materials, and prepare and present reports sharing fundraising initiatives and tracking donation data

  • Prepare donor materials, including presentations, and undertake prospect research, create background materials, prepare staff and board members for asks

  • Train and guide board members in stewardship and fundraising best practices

  • Coordinate alumnae fundraising efforts and create a sense of community and support among our alumnae base

  • Collaborate on the planning and implementation of fundraising events 

  • Ensure fundraising and donation opportunities on website and other digital platforms are up-to-date

 

qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years development or fundraising experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Success in developing and implementing scalable fundraising plans, identifying and cultivating donors, and soliciting individual mid-level and major gifts

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with philanthropists

  • Analytical, organized, proactive, detail-oriented with strong ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at the same time

  • Strong project management skills and ability to see projects through to completion

  • Experience with donor databases or CRMs 

  • Demonstrate good judgment and discretion and the ability to interact with confidentiality, integrity, and tact

  • Expert in fundraising best practices

  • Clear written, verbal, and visual presentation communication skills 

  • A keen understanding of the Jewish community; familiarity with the Modern Orthodox community is a plus

  • Commitment to the mission, philosophy and values of Maharat and the ability to articulate the organization’s needs, opportunities and aspirations with clarity and enthusiasm

  • Candidates within commuting distance of Riverdale, NY for in-person or hybrid schedules preferred, but fully remote candidates will also be considered (though occasional travel to New York will be required)

  • Requires work on occasional evenings and weekends 

  • Flexible schedule

  • The salary for the position ranges from $50,000-60,000 for 25 hours/week
